News

Vale Arts Trail

This autumn, Vena (Vale of Evesham network of Artists) with the support of Wychavon District Council are putting together a trail of art workshops and exhibitions from local artists, as well as Pershore High School, with displays of paintings, photography, ceramic and glass sculptures, and workshops for all ages. The event runs throughout October from 3rd-31st and is located at many venues across Wychavon.

To kick start this month long trail, Pershore Library is hosting a Preview Night on Friday 2nd October 6-7.30pm where you can come along, have a drink, meet all the artists and view some of their exhibitions as a ‘taster’ of what to expect during the Trail.

The launch date for the first ever Vale Arts Trail begins on 3rd October at Pershore High School from 1.30-4.30pm with The Big Draw. You will be able to create arts and crafts with a shopping theme! The launch event is suitable for all ages and is FREE of charge!

CHANGES IN SAFEGUARDING & PROTECTING
CHILDREN & VULNERABLE ADULTS

To be extra certain on who is being employed to work with children and vulnerable adults, the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) has been created and will work in conjunction with the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) in order to reduce the number of these unsuitable employed people who end up working with children and young adults.

Information will be gathered on every person who wants to work or volunteer with vulnerable people. Using this information the ISA will then assess on a case-by case basis whether each person is appropriate for the type of work applied for.

Once they have completed this process a person is then ISA registered and their information will be securely stored. Employers & Voluntary Organisations will then be able to access people’s ISA status when recruiting.

Applicants, who are judged to pose NO risk to children and vulnerable adults, are then ISA registered, and only these ISA registered applicants are able to work with children and young adults.

For more information about these changes please visit the ISA website www.isa-gov.org.uk

and the CRB website www.crb.gov.uk

Art In Empty Spaces

Art in Empty Spaces is a programme running in partnership with the Department for Communities and Local Government’s (CLG) scheme Looking After our Town Centres. It’s an opportunity which has risen in response to Arts Council’s Action on Recession and aims to transform empty retail units into bright, creative spaces in which the whole community can enjoy.

Say goodbye to empty boarded up shops! And say hello to bright, innovative, and creative activities.

The CLG will invest £52,632 to each local authority recipient in England to help restore these empty units in our towns. An additional £500,000 from the Arts Council has been put nationally into the Grants for the Arts Programme, therefore the West Midlands has a budget of just under £60,000 in order to help rebuild these dull premises and liven up the towns where we live.

For further information as well as help on applying for this grant visit www.artscouncil.org.uk

  • Helping more young people take on leadership roles within their community.
  • Creating more chances for young people to be able to have a say in what affects them
  • Raising the quality of youth leadership opportunities.
  • Enable small organisations grow
  • Support innovative projects that are unlikely to get funding from else where

After the success of the 2008 Summer Events, and after popular demand, this summer saw Art in the Park, Party in the Park, and A Taste of Art 2009 kick off with a promising start yet again involving an array of workshops, shows, performances, and entertainment for the whole family.

Art in the Park… consisted of a six day event between 28th-30th July and 4th-6th August 2009, where Evesham, Pershore and Droitwich welcomed hundreds of eager and exciting residents, tourists, even passers-by to join in with the activities and enjoy the beautiful weather within a social environment all for FREE! This was the second year in which Art in the Park has taken place and proved as much of a success as the previous.

Party in the Park… After six triumphant years of Party in the Park, Droitwich this year kicked off the start of yet another year of exciting performances and events on 25th August, and received a large crowd who were enthusiastic to join in the fun. But the most impressive outcome of this year’s Party in the Park was Evesham’s Abbey Park venue where 1000 plus visitors swarmed over to participate in the activities on one of the hottest days of the year.

Activities such as performances from the W Factor finalists, face painting and henna tattooing, circus skills, art using recycled waste, and Multi-skills activities were available.

A Taste of Art… took place at the end of July – beginning of August involving an array of workshops ranging from an introduction to street and contemporary dance to exploring art through recycled waste. This project focuses on young people in the rural areas of Wychavon and gets art out in to the villages
