A Window on the Arts - Pershore

A new exhibition of children and young people's work was set up at Studio 45, 45 High Street, Pershore this November. This is the latest exhibition in the A Window On The Arts Project, which gets artwork in to empty shops. The exhibition launched on the 8th November where the arts facilitator and organisers talked through the project with some refreshments. The evening was very popular with the children who’d created the paintings and their families that turned up to admire everyone’s artistic talent. Some of those who had their paintings put onto canvas had their pictures taken to go in the Evesham Observer as their parents and families stood proudly watching.

The paintings were kept on display from the 9th to the 20th of November which definitely added to the view in the town as the public wandered around the shops. We would like to know what you think about the workshops, exhibitions and this project so please feedback to us via the Wychavon District Council's Community Development blog http://www.wychavon.gov.uk

We are also looking for artists that would like to get involved in the organisation of the exhibitions so if there is anyone that would like to volunteer for this contact Jenny Davis on 01386 565396 or email jenny.davis@wychavon.gov.uk

RedDress Theatre- Moon Ladder

RedDress Theatre is a new Worcestershire based company created by its artistic director and core performer Michelle Pogmore. Working across art forms in collaboration with artists and theatre practitioners, they work towards the creation of original and innovative theatre for children to be staged within studio and versatile theatre spaces.

Intimate, Lyrical, Musical, Magical and Unusual we are!

Michelle Pogmore has just completed the development and showcasing of her first show Moon Ladder. Moon Ladder was funded by the Arts Council England, the Elmley Foundation, Worcestershire County Council and in partnership with the University of Worcester

Moon Ladder is a solo dance/theatre performance with original music, animation and a huge silk bedspread. By choosing to seat the audience around an oversized bed, in close proximity to the performer, the experience of watching this piece of theatre is both intimate and dramatic. Moon Ladder has already been booked by the Pegasus in Oxford, the Worcester Arts Workshop and put on the Black Country Touring list.

Now that Moon Ladder has been performed to the public, Michelle is beginning develop it ready for touring and is looking for a free space to rehearse in over the next few months. It needs to be a space of at least 15' and ideally a place where she could store the set. The set is a platform of 8' by 5' and a foot high. It can be broken down into pieces that would take up a space of 5' by 1'. She is also looking for a Stage Manager/Technician for touring the show. If you can help Michelle please contact her at michellepogmore@gmail.com and take a look at the web site www.reddresstheatre.co.uk.

Archive Arts Exhibition

Archive Arts has opened a new exhibition at the Almonry Heritage and Tourist Information Centre to celebrate the history of Evesham Mop Fair. The exhibition is the result of work carried out by Archive Arts over the past year. Lisa Kimberley, Director of Creative Productions has co-ordinated the project that has involved volunteers and a professional Oral History Producer in recording interviews with members of the local community and show people. The permanent exhibition shows photographs from the archive and it is possible to hear clips from interviews about different aspects of the fair and the life and work of show people. Lisa said “It is the first exhibition of its kind in the town of Evesham that recognises the significance of the Mop Fair that dates back for over 800 years. It also validates the experiences of local people and celebrates the lifestyle, culture and identity of travelling show people themselves.” Archive Arts have received funding from Heritage Lottery Fund, Worcestershire County Council and Evesham Town Council to create the Mop Fair Archive.

Jenny Davis Arts Development Officer says

“This project is coming out of the High Schools and in to the community through these open auditions, so you don’t have to go to a particular school to get involved. Many young bands have already been through the programme and are now busy promoting themselves or have gone on to further education, in particularly some prestigious music colleges and university’s. The project has developed young bands confidence no end and we hope to do the same again this time”

If you want to apply for an audition time then please contact Jordan Clayton for an application form call Jordan 01386 565238 or e-mail jordan.clayton@wychavon.gov.uk or download from our website www.wychavon.gov.uk (arts)

12 Moves

‘12 Moves’ is a 2 year project across Worcestershire inspired by the People Dancing programme, part of the West Midlands’ Culture Programme for London 2012 funded by Legacy Trust UK, Arts Council England West Midlands and Advantage West Midlands. The first part of the project with two Dance Squads delivering sessions to young people and adults began in July 2010. ‘12 Moves’ will continue to grow and include performances, film and flashmobs culminating in a largescale final event in March 2012.

The aim of the project is to give people in Worcestershire the opportunity to take part in dance – for health, for fun, to create and to see dance in surprising places using film and live dance. The Dance Squads aim is to demonstrate how dance can be one way of getting fit and be part of a healthy lifestyle.  There are different types of sessions to choose from that include Streetdance, Zumba, Chance to Dance (for people aged 55+), creative.

In Wychavon free open dance sessions will be happening from 4th January to 15th February every Tuesday from 6.30-7.30pm at the Railway Club, Honeybourne for young people aged 11+.
