A Window on the Arts
- Pershore A new exhibition of children and young
people's work was set up at Studio 45, The paintings were kept on display from the 9th
to the 20th of November which definitely added to the
view in the town as the public wandered around the shops. We would like
to know what you think about the workshops, exhibitions and this project
so please feedback to us via the Wychavon

Showell Gallery The Showell
Gallery at the Civic Centre in Pershore will soon exhibit the canvas
paintings of the artwork exhibited at Studio 45. The public are welcome to come in and take a look at what the children and young people created during
the October half term workshops. It’s a brilliant chance to see the paintings
if you didn’t have a chance at Studio 45. There is also an opportunity to give
your feedback and impressions of the
project and paintings so please do come along and take

The Three Pears - Landscape sculpture depicting the Three
Pears: The County emblem of Worcestershire This
working model circa 2006, shows the interlocking
relationship of the three shapes illustrating The Three Pears, the county emblem of
Worcestershire. This model shows the proposed work 25 metres high, having a
viewing platform and two stairways shown in perspex.

RedDress Theatre- Moon Ladder RedDress Theatre is a new Worcestershire based company created by its
artistic director and core performer Michelle Pogmore.
Working across art forms in collaboration with artists and theatre practitioners,
they work towards the creation of original and innovative theatre for children to
be staged within studio and versatile theatre spaces. Intimate, Lyrical, Musical, Magical
and Unusual we are! Michelle Pogmore has just
completed the development and showcasing of her first show Moon Ladder. Moon
Ladder was funded by the Arts Council England, the Elmley Foundation, Worcestershire County Council and in partnership with the Moon
Ladder is a solo
dance/theatre performance with original music, animation and a
huge silk bedspread. By choosing to seat the audience around an oversized bed, in
close proximity to the performer, the experience of watching this piece of
theatre is both intimate and dramatic. Moon Ladder has already been booked by the
Pegasus in Now that Moon Ladder has been performed to the public, Michelle is
beginning develop
it ready for touring and is looking for a free space to rehearse in over the next
few months. It needs to be a space of at least 15' and ideally a
place where she could store the set. The set is a platform of 8' by 5' and a
foot high. It can be broken down into pieces that would take up a space of 5'
by 1'. She is also looking for a Stage Manager/Technician for

Archive Arts Exhibition Archive
Arts has opened a new exhibition at the Almonry Heritage and Tourist Information Centre
to celebrate the history of Evesham Mop Fair. The exhibition
is the result of work carried out by Archive Arts over the past year. Lisa
Kimberley, Director of Creative Productions has co-ordinated the project that
has involved
volunteers and a professional Oral History Producer in recording
interviews with members of the local community and show people. The permanent
exhibition shows photographs from the archive and it is possible to
hear clips from interviews about different aspects of the fair and the life

Shindig! Shindig is Worcestershire's
rural and community arts scheme, touring professional live arts to village
halls and community centres. They are hosted by voluntary
promoting groups who sell tickets locally, supported by the Shindig Co-ordinator and their local authority arts officers. The events happening in Wychavon

Number 8 Community
Arts Centre Film & Live Events They have a huge variety of family events
at Number 8 this Winter, with films such as Nativity! (U), The Legend of the
Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole in 3D (PG) and Harry Potter
& the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (12A). Live highlights include
Pershore Operatic and Dramatic Society’s latest production Aladdin and his Wonderful Lamp from Monday 6 – Saturday 11 December. Hot on the heels of
PODS, Vienna Festival Ballet return to Number 8 with traditional ballet
productions of Sleeping
Beauty on Friday 17 and Saturday 18 December and Swan Lake on
Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 December. For young people studying Shakespeare, we
are screening Hamlet
on Tuesday 14 December as part of the National Theatre Live
season; also coming to Number 8 is The Man who was Hamlet on Friday 14 January,
the scandalous tale of Edward de Vere who some
believe was the real author of Shakespeare’s plays. Creative Courses There are plenty of Creative Courses on
offer too: the popular Number 8 Youth Theatre starts on Wednesday
19 January for 10 weeks. The fun and creative After School Dance Classes are
also enrolling for the new season, starting on Tuesday 11 January for 12
weeks. A brand new Children’s Art Course for 6-11 year olds is
also starting on Tuesday 18 January for 10 weeks where children will learn
drawing, painting, clay modelling, papier mâché and collage, culminating in an exhibition of
selected works at the Number 8 gallery in 2011! Opening Hours: Box

Droitwich Concert Club
On Saturday 15th January 2011 at 7.30p.m. Caroline MacPhie (soprano) and Joseph Middleton (piano) will give a song recital. The programme will include two song-cycles: The Poet's Echo by Benjamin Britten and Fiancailles pour rire by Francis Poulenc, together with well-known songs by Schubert and Brahms, and a group of favourite operatic arias including Puccini's O mio babbino caro.

Arts Awards The
courses below are all at Arts Council Bronze/ Silver
Adviser Training Arts
Council England are putting on a one day course is for those who want to
become Arts Awards advisers and provide effective support for young people
working towards their Award. You must be at least 18, with 3 years’ full time
or 2 years’ part time experience working with young people. It will be held
on the 15th
December 2010 from 9am – 4pm and costs £135.00. Arts Awards Gold
Top-Up Training This
course is for those who have already trained as Art Award advisers at Bronze/
Silver level, and who want to be bale to support young people working towards
their Gold award. (N.B. The Gold Award now counts for 35 points on the UCAS
Tariff.) It will be held on the 10th December 2010 from 9am –
12:45pm and costs £90.00. Arts Awards Extra This half
day course is for those who have already trained as Bronze/ Silver Arts Award

Art Resource Pack for Youth Workers Coventry Youth Service has produced a new resource aimed
particularly at part time and volunteer youth workers who want
to add some creativity to their work with young people. Created with support
from the RYWU’s art development programme, the Art Resource Pack
aims to provide youth workers with planned activities that they
can take ‘off the shell’ to start to develop arts based work with young
people. The pack
consists of accessible menu cards, organised in sections covering a wide
range of artforms, including: arts and crafts,
dance, drama, media, music and urban art. These are also useful sections
covering such issues as accreditation, funding and risk assessment. If you

NSPCC Music Guidelines The NSPCC
has launched an online training programme for anyone teaching
music to children and young people. ‘Child Protection Awareness in Music’
is a distance learning course, produced by the NSPCC and the Musicians Union
in partnership with Music Leader and the Associated Board of the Royal
Schools of Music. It uses short films
to show a variety of good and bad practice examples, and aims to

The Safe Network – Safeguarding children and
young people Run as a
partnership between NSPCC and Children England, the Safe
Network provides a website containing practical safeguarding information and
advice for community
and voluntary groups, as well as training events, a phone enquiry

Warwickshire County Council Warwickshire County Council is seeking participatory
artists who can deliver arts
sessions to activity co-ordinators and volunteers in older
peoples' homes in Warwickshire on January 12th
and March 9th 2011 between 9:00–15:30. Artists need to be experienced in providing arts sessions for older people,
skilled and enthusiastic in demonstrating and passing on arts skills,
experience of making activity inclusive for older people with dementia and
limited dexterity, have ideas for longevity of activity with service users
and are confident about encouraging documenting, monitoring and evaluation .

POW Funding Positive Opportunities
Worcestershire (POW) is a government project to help children and young people try new activities
that will help them at school and in life. POW money
is for families who find it difficult to pay for activities; it can be spent
on activities
offered at school or other places, e.g. leisure centres or clubs. Your
organisation may also be interested in being placed on the Preferred
Providers List (PPL) which ensures that activities children participate
in are safe
and of a high standard. The list will provide information on
whether the activity provider has child protection policies and is CRB checked. If you
are an organisation that works with children and young people, involving
enrichment activities and want to know more about how to engage with the POW project and

Youth Music Auditions! Are you in a band, a
singer or songwriter? Do you want the chance to develop
your skills in performing, songwriting, confidence
building and promoting yourself in the music industry with a professional
musician and industry consultant? On Saturday 11th December at
Pershore Riverside Centre, This is
the first time any young person aged 14-18 years will have the chance to get
involved with this fantastic project. If you pass the audition you will
have a chance to be involved in an intense programme over a 10 week period from January
2011. There will be opportunities to develop musically but also to perform at
various gigs and develop confidence. There is no charge for this project. Jenny

project is coming out of the High Schools and in to the community through
these open auditions, so you don’t have to go to a particular school to get
involved. Many young bands have already been through the programme
and are now busy promoting themselves or have gone on to further education,
in particularly some prestigious music colleges and university’s. The project

Arts Extend Arts Extend, is a new arts project for Worcestershire funded by Extended
Services and Arts Council. Wychavon has its own
projects delivered through a partnership with Wychavon District Council,
Extended Services, Youth Support, The Youth Bus and local youth clubs.
Wychavon has decided to focus on film and photography in their
workshops with young people. So far Honeybourne
Youth Club has participated and has filmed some dance workshops. The film is available to

12 Moves ‘12 Moves’ is a 2
year project across Worcestershire inspired by the People Dancing programme, part of the
West Midlands’ Culture Programme for London 2012 funded by Legacy Trust The aim
of the project is to give people in Worcestershire the opportunity to
take part in dance – for health, for fun, to create and to see dance in
surprising places using film and live dance. The Dance Squads aim
is to demonstrate how dance can be one way of getting fit and be part of a
healthy lifestyle. There are different
types of sessions to choose from that include Streetdance,
Zumba, Chance to Dance (for people aged 55+),
creative. In
Wychavon free open dance sessions will be happening from 4th January to 15th

W Factor! If you are aged 11-18 years why not come along and show off your talents by auditioning
for the W Factor 2011. All art forms are welcome, film, visual arts,
dance, drama, circus, music and singing. Monday 10th January

Wychavon After Schools Clubs Wychavon works regularly with schools developing their after school arts
provision. Currently the after school clubs are providing drama, music and dance sessions. Professional arts workers are working alongside teachers to develop their long term skills, for an hour, on different days at the
following schools:

International Youth Arts Festival The
International Youth Arts Festival (IYAF) is created and produced by young people
to give other young people aged from 0 – 26 years opportunities as performers,
event managers, producers, creators and innovators. It will take
place from 1st
- 18th July 2011 at Kingston on Thames.
Applications are now open to all youth arts projects anywhere who want to
take part. IYAF is interested in all art forms – from
traditional cultural activities to new emerging work. Visit the
