12 Moves Dance Flashmob

On 23rd July at around 1pm shoppers in Droitwich Spa were given a surprise when 75 dancers began an unexpected performance. The flashmob dancers performed their rehearsed moves in Victoria Square and Vines Park.

The performers worked together for several weeks to create and rehearse the specially-developed dance. Ranging in age from 11 to 60 and drawn from towns and villages across Worcestershire, the group’s work was led by professional choreographer Jennifer Irons and composer Mira Calix.

The performances are part of 12 Moves, the largest dance project to have ever taken place in Worcestershire. Over three years, thousands of people are being given the opportunity to participate and experience dance and digital art in unusual settings.

12 Moves culminates in an outdoor spectacular event in Worcester on March 24 2012.

Charlotte Brennan, 12 Moves project manager, said: “The dancers have worked incredibly hard to create these performances and it’s fantastic to see their creativity develop.”

Watch the Worcester performance at the Dancefest website.

12 Moves is part of Dancing for the Games, the programme inspired by London 2012 and part of the Cultural Olympiad in the West Midlands. It has been funded by Legacy Trust UK, an independent charity set up to help build a lasting cultural and sporting legacy from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as Arts Council England and Advantage West Midlands.

Evesham Arts 4 All Day

On 17th July, Evesham Arts 4 All Day took place at Evesham Arts Centre where there were artists & potters, music, arts & drama groups; writing, painting, drawing, dance & drama classes. The day also included the opportunity to get a caricature done of yourself while enjoying the great atmosphere and meeting new people.
Evesham Arts 4 All Day gives the local community a chance to see what’s going on in the arts, ask questions and get involved. The day was a great success with the participants being able to show what they can offer and the public enjoying the performances. All in all the day turned out very positive for all involved!

From September Joe Walton will be displaying his work entitled Tuning Into Wychavon’.

Joe’s work is bold and full of expression, oil on canvas being his medium of choice. He has been painting as a hobby since the 60’s but it is now a major priority in his life. He has a Yin Yang approach to his work. Tuning into Wychavon is an idea by Joe to reverse the Yin stimulus by using external visual references of Wychavon as the catalyst to inspire musical themes that he can associate with what he sees. The two are then married together in an image, again with an element of the surreal and cosmic.

Visit Joe’s website at www.JoeWalton.co.uk and contact him at Joe@flad13.fsnet.co.uk or on 07970 299171.

Her work contains references to the natural environment, current affairs and geology.

Public Open Space Community Art Project – Hanley Castle And Hanley Swan

The Hanleys’ Village Society (Hanley Castle and Hanley Swan), supported by the Market and Cafe Group, has provided initial funding for a community art project that has the ultimate aim of placing two sculptures in open spaces in the villages. The sculptures will be located and be of a form that will have strong links to the history of the villages and also provide a link between the villages.

Stage 2 will involve working with the school children to produce preliminary and detailed concept designs, and to work with the Project Manager. In stage 3, the final stage of the project, the artist will be responsible for developing the final concept designs into a final design, submitting planning applications if required, and then creating the sculptures. Funding for the artist’s input of £1500 has been obtained for Stages 1 and 2. Stage 3 is dependent on funding availability and ideally, will commence in April 2012.

A detailed brief will be sent to artists expressing interest who have, or can put in place, a satisfactory CRB check. Further information can be obtained from the Project Manager, Russell Farraday at drakes.place@btinternet.com or on 01684 589590.
