W FACTOR 2010

The W Factor Final Show for 2010 took place on Monday 22nd March at Evesham Arts Centre. Over 200 visitors including parents, friends, family members, as well as members of the public swarmed the theatre to experience this fantastic event showcasing young talent across Wychavon. There were 6 categories in total: Singing, Dance, Music, Musical Theatre, Visual Arts and a NEW! category for this year Short Film.

The W Factor began in early February when over 40 keen youngsters applied for an audition at one of the 4 venues held in Wychavon: Salwarpe Village Hall, Blackminster Middle School, St Barnabas Middle School, and Bredon Village Hall.
The judges had a tough job this year as competition was very high but managed to whittle down all those who auditioned to just 18 acts who would then go through to the final show.

We had performances by the Performing Arts finalists and witnessed the talent from the Visual Arts and Short Film categories through a series of slideshows and film clips.

After moments of deliberation from the judges, the winners were announced and certificates and trophies were presented by Councillor Andy Dyke, Chairman of the Council.

The event proved to be as fantastic as expected and feedback from the visitors, performers themselves, as well as Councillors were very positive and highly commendable.

The Community Development Team at Wychavon District Council would like to congratulate all those who auditioned, the 18 finalists who performed at the final show, and most importantly, congratulations must go to the winners of each category:

Short Film:
Jamie Deas, Droitwich Spa High School
Singing Category:
Ellys Lloyd-Jones, Pershore High School
Dance Category:
Joshua Rouse, Pershore High School
Musical Theatre Category:
Antonia Payne-Cheney, Tewkesbury School
Music Category:
Seb Fell and James Mattey (SJS), Bowbrook House School
Visual Arts:
Joanna Train, Pershore High Sixth Form

Coming soon! If you would like to view this year’s final show as well as previous years of The W Factor, visit www.youtube.com and search for Wychavon1. We are also now on Facebook. To see pictures of the finalists and winners, search for The Wychavon Factor and request as a friend.

After School Club ‘SHARING’ Event

On Wednesday 31st March 2010, Wychavon District Council organised a ‘sharing’ event whereby children from the local primary and middle schools had the chance to showcase what they have achieved after weeks of attending after school art, dance and drama classes.

The ‘sharing’ event represented the end of the school workshops and were shown using slideshow presentations of the children’s visual art work as well as performances from the children who took the drama and dance classes. YOUTH MUSIC 2009/2010

We welcome news that the 2009 graduates of the Wychavon Youth Music Project are all successfully continuing with their respective studies at Universities and specialist music colleges around the country. It’s great to see that the work done by Wychavon District Council to engage young people with skills in music and performance is continuing to grow outside of their comfort zones.

We wish this current crop of performer’s equal success as they have already received acceptances from some of the best universities.

As for performances, 4 acts who decided to take part in the heart warming and moving experience of visiting various children’s hospices around the area at Christmas time to spread some Christmas cheers to those less fortunate by performing a number of songs and posing for pictures with some incredibly brave youngsters and amazing staff.

It has also been a great year for the participants themselves getting gigs of their own as they perform in pubs, bars, clubs and also in competitions as their confidence grows in all areas of music, stage and performance. Some have made it to the finals of regional competitions such as Worcester’s Got Talent and Battle of the Bands.

All in all an incredible time has been had by the young people themselves and the team behind the Wychavon Youth Music Project as we continue to wish them well into 2010 and beyond.
